The July 2010 (#262) article of Australias Surfing Life contains an article by Sam Page 'PNG Pigs' , pages 62-73

Of interest was a photo by Andrew Shield of a young guy on a paipo. I'm trying to find out a bit more about the photo. Try the following URL:

http://www.andrewshield.com.au/cms/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=151&Itemid=141

If this doesn't work go to: http://www.andrewshield.com.au/
Click on Galleries -> Travels -> Papua New Guinea

Bob -

PNG is at the of my list of places to go. I've heard the surf is gnarly and the reefs are sharp! I'll look for that kid.

Ted,

I've read a few articles on PNG. Seems like the surf can be well shaped but nowhere like Indonesian or Hawaiian surf - size wise. PNG itself has a serious crime problem. My wife did a brief trip there for work and was issued a walkie-talkie, not allowed out of the hotel compound and while there, the Police chief was mugged while jogging. I believe once out of Port Moresby the scene is different (barring tribal warfare).

New Ireland area is where the surf I've read about can be found. A different world to the urban crime scene.
