By way of one of Bob Green's contacts comes an article on our form of prone riding:
http://mypaipoboards.org/mags/magazines.shtml#Surfabout
The article makes a point to note that belly boards and paipo boards are two different waveriding platforms, but does not really elaborate on the distinguishing features. The article also notes that the term paipo is derived from paepae (meaning "a slapping manner"). Candy Calhoun is mentioned as a mat master -- it appears she did it all as a waveriding waterwoman.
Why hasn't Bob Green tracked down "Bozo" Griffith for an interview yet??? _________________ rodNDtube

Bob,
That's a photo on me on page 45 with a bellyboarder next to me. BTW I was bodysurfing. The place was Cronulla Point where all the photos were taken. The girl on p46 is Julie Gibson and she still bodysurfs though mainly at Curl Curl. Jack Eden used these in a book he did on Oz surfing.
BTW I now remember that Bozo Griffiths isn't Bob Griffiths.
The strap on board is what Weldon Dynes aka Mr Wells used. |

Hello Puurri,
Thanks for the extra details. Getting in touch with Bob Griffiths was still useful, even if he isn't Bozo Griffiths.
Darryl didn't have info on bellyboards but asked around. This week I hope to contact Ray.
regards
