Sadky as I get thicker I need my boards to be so too.
I do enjoy the low volume duckdives and controlled takeoffs in steep situations but I also enjoy the EEEEeeeasy paddling of a volume board. Ive also found that as the wave ends a thicker board will have more 'run' out into a channel or deep water than a thin board. And also escape the falling lip of a closeout easier.
A thin board is fast, but as the speed drops at the end of a wave, the thinner boards sinks and slows whereas a thicker board will retain more speed out into the channel because the higher bouyancy holds the rider higher for longer.
Love the thin boards for their versatility and performance nuances but Im tending towards thicker just for the paddling ease and escape value.

Just call me a lazy coward.
