Poohbah....

Your thoughts on this??

I thought wemight use the Fave Kinda Break thread to get a consenusand then, use this thread to pitch places....

My ldea, since most of us will have to travel to it...

I vote for maybe getting a boat (s) boston whalers or so...and heading out to somewhere special....I don't mean, invading The Ranch (unless we had invites)...I just mean some place very cool, with a great wave for us, and, where we can anchor and hop off the boat....saving our energy for just catching waves....paipo, mat, belly...knee...bodyboard....plus, the impact on any line-up we would have making such a grand entrance would be a hoot....

I mean, what if we approached, say Rincon this way????

Or.....

take the boats straight west for about a mile. Hang a left. Keep going straight until you hit Panama, Left again, straight until you get to Cuba. Left at Cuba, go left again at 42N. That'll put you here in time for the fall waves. Cool

Our brethern kneeboarders(KSUSA) have chosen Plaskett Creek Campground, sites 2 & 3 for their gathering in Big Sur. Sept.23-27. They choose these dates in consideration of the Swaylock`s gathering. Shall we piggyback ourselves ? Could be fun for all!

KSUSA chose those dates because?? The Swaylocks Meeting is that weekend or some other weekend?

Upon review of the thread on the KSUSA website, the only consideration taken was of the great time everyone had! I, for one, plan to attend both gatherings, regardless of the dates chosen.

I e-mailed John Mellor, and he's going to announce the dates and camping cost on Swaylocks Forum in the not too distant future.

I like the idea of piggybacking on swaylocks trip, if there's room. Although there are some definate anti -paipo orcs in that crowd Shocked .
The boat idea sounds fun but there is a certain amount of scheduling and splitting of $ and organizing that would have to happen. I like the idea of just hanging out and surfing and hanging out and drinking.

Some of those places around Big Sur are super sharky....

Pigeon Point - Ano Nuevo

In and around Rancho del Oso-Waddell Beach

It's one thing if you are on a longboard - quite another if with a paipo.

How's C-street, County Line and __________ fill in the blank in Ventura
County sound to anyone?

I don't consider if piggybacking. Paipos and bellyboards are "a part of" not "apart from" the surfing universe. John Mellor the event organizer owns two Nuematics and his buddy Jeff has two bellyboards listed on the League of Lamaroos. As for there being enough room...the group camp is limited to 20 cars and 80 people. But you might also get one of the individual first-comer campsites there at Paskett Creek. Especially if you arrive before the weekend. Or stay up the road at Limekiln or? You can drive down in the morning and park in the day-use lot west of the highway. As for the anti-paipo orcs...maybe I'll make a Fat Penguin bellyboard just so they'll really have something to scream about. Or make my own surfwax on a Coleman stove.

Birdie,
how about further south? Huntington and Newport were hotbeds of bellyboarding in the old days. Perhaps we should plan something there for late spring/early summer.

I'm screaming with laughter.....

I'll stop by with some Datura flowers and seeds to sprinkle in the pot, and we can give it away and then, see if they start to hallucinate out in the line-up.

But that Fat Penguin guy really has caught a few of them with extra tight knickers on....quick, take a photo!

Meanwhile, can we do a Baja caravan??

I'd like to try Bolsa Chica! Scooby is down HB way...

My friend Matt goes down to BC and HB often....

County Line at the LA County - Ventura County line is chockfull of bodyboarders, and is a pretty steep and fast wave....perfect for it....

There is another place, between Leo Carrillo and County Line that is called Heavens.....it's actually, the north end of Leo Carrillo, hidden from view from the PCH, and is just south of a break called Staircases.

Anyway, since it is a state park, there is camping and also, grills right on the beach....and you can reserve the far end of the parking lot for things like Paipoaloozas....

Has mostly A-Frames....

Can be awesome in August/Sept when the hurricanes kick up in Mexico.

I mean...throwing lip like places in Indo...and 5 - 14 feet.

I'm ok with 3 - 5 feet.

On Superbowl Sunday, there were only 4 of us there, and it was gorgeous and I caught the longest cleanest right there....Bodyboarding....sheer bliss.

Anyway, leo at the rock, heavens, and county Line are all right there, and one of the 3 always has something...

I am sooo sore!

The Paipo is such a hit at my homebreak....everybody is welcome there, too.

All the places I listed we won't have a localism issue to deal with.

At Heavens and especially at County Line, we'd get mobbed with "What are those??". Best to go where you'll be a sure fire hit.

Topanga though, I have to tell you, we have some yahoo's from Canoga Park (waaaay inland) who have seen too many movies and are cutting leashes and giving guys on thrusters a bad name...blurting about being locals and yada yada....they have to be taken down and told, Topanga is a STATE PARK. We all pay taxes. It's everybodys.

So, just a heads up for anyone travelling through the hood here.

Cheers

Some of you might be interested to know there's a website that covers most of the California coastline. Helps you pick out parking turnouts and trails to the beach.

Poobah,

After I read your note....I turned off the computer for the night and thought "Oh, the california coastal project! I'll post Heavens and County Line and Leo Carrillo (the rock - south end).....

And, here you are with the link this morning!

Here's Heavens (you enter at Leo Carrillo, south of there, off the northbound PCH, go past the ranger station and the parking lot for Leo Carrillo (rock), under the PCH overpass, then up towards the lifeguard tower...the road then descends into this looooooong parking lot along the shore. The grills are near the beginning of it.....drive all the way to the end of the parking lot....park. This last bit of the lot you can reserve for parties.... and...right out and towards the north, is Heavens.

Here it is
