Hello folks,
Has anyone tried a waisted plan shape for an alaia style board - i.e one that pinches in at the tail then widens again? I've seen some examples on the Wegener site and if nothing else they looks distinctive. I suppose that such a design might allow one to flex the tail of the board when in trim.

Mike, when you get a chance...would you get us some photos of the tail. In one of the building threads you mentioned gluing the tail pieces at a slight angle, but I couldn't find any photos of the finished tails that were from a back or oblique view. I think people might be more inspired if they could see that the horizontal fins are both canted and concaved.

I've thought about a plywood version.....same template, but do something different with the rail fins....maybe even bulbed wingtips.
