Hi everybody.
This is my first post. Great to find so many like-minded souls. Here are a couple of pics of a "Surfrider" plywood bellyboard I restored recently. Topside has about 3 coats of exterior varnish so there is still grain that you can feel. This provides a little grip to stop you sliding off the board. The underside has more coats and is highly polished. This board flies!!!
It's hard to imagine how you could improve these very simple but very effective boards. When used in the slop they were designed for, they easily out-perform a sponge and on a green face they are at least as good (in my opinion).

Brooky.

Ah the mighty eef!
Thanks for the welcome. You must be the most prolific paipo maker in the world!
This is certainly one of those world bellyboard championship qualifying boards. My daughter & I are hoping to enter this year. Maybe see you there?
The dimensions are
Length; 42.5"
Nose width; 12.5"
Tail width; 11.25"
Nose rocker; 1"
Thickness; about 7mm

That's very sweet mrmike. Is it a double ender? i.e. does it have rocker at both ends so it can be ridden either way round? That wood grain looks beautiful. I may have to disagree with you. Some things CAN be improved on! Very pretty.
Brooky.

Hi eef,

All I am sure of regarding the rules is, no fins & no wetsuits. I'm led to believe that Speedos are usual attire for the gentlemen and one-piece bathing suits for the ladies & if you really want to enter into the spirit of things you should wear a bathing cap (ladies & gents)! For the remainder of the rules, go to this webpage;

www.bellyboarding.co.uk

There you will find a name & telephone number to contact. None of this silly modern email business! Laughing

By the way eef,

If you absolutely have to have a proper original plywood bellyboard, I've got a couple of spares. You are welcome to borrow one of those if you wish. I'll let you know nearer the time if I'm definitely going.

Brooky.

Cheers Goodwood,

Good to know this passion of ours is worldwide. I shall have to look into the possibility of building a nice alaia. About 5' long and tapering to a square tail that's noticeably narrower than the nose.
Question is, where do I get hold of a suitably sized piece of traditional alaia wood in the UK?... and what is the traditional wood for making an alaia?...and are they flat top and bottom, or is the bottom gently rolled?...and do they have nose rocker?
I think I need some detailed photos of such a board. Can anybody help?
Brooky.
