I was just looking at these Handee Fins on ebay, and I can't help but wonder if they lead to the reinvention of the handboard?

I don't know if they lead to the reinvention of anything. But I suspect they are the result of a lot of army surplus rubber.

Now that’s something that brings back some fond memories for me.

When I was just a little squirt my family had a tradition of going to the old Stewart’s Pharmacy in Waikiki for breakfast on Sundays after church. Not only did they have the best French toast and their famous Orange Bread but they also had quite an assortment of beach goodies for the tourist. Including “Handee Fins”. As a little kid I thought those things looked pretty neat but I just couldn’t get my Mom to spring the dough to buy ‘em for me.

We lived about a block away from the “Wall” at Kuhio Beach and I spent many a summer day bodysurfing there with my friends. I was always getting into hot water for leaving my slippers on the beach and losing them so one day I had the bright idea of swimming out with my slippers on my hands, just like those Handee Fins. Hey, it worked pretty good! I just put the toe piece between my fingers and stroked away. Once I was on the wave I would push my arm out in front and plane on the slipper. Voila! Rubah Slipah handboard
