Also down under...a Farfor paipo. Not sure about the fins. I'm guessing they could have been added later.

Here is a link to a letter written by Jamie describing how he built those boards: Farfor link

That link didn't work for me, let's try this - it goes to the pods for primates site and the letter I think PJim is referencing. http://www.surfresearch.com.au/00000193.html
I am sure all you HPD fans out there will notice some slight similarity. Shocked Heh heh.
Maybe this should be a new thread. I would like to do some experimenting in this kind of construction. The problem, I think is the double rocker in the nose. front to back and side to side. Plywood doesn't want to bend both ways without the edges crimping. It seems Farfor got around this by multiple plys, maybe thinner than the entire width, with glue between to allow for all that stretching? Anybody else interested in this kind of construction.

The problems with that construction technique are many; (forms, vacuum bags or heavy pressure clamp affairs etc.) suitable veneers are not cheap and not readily available and while adhesives (epoxy) have come a long way there will always be problems with flex and wood movement so consequently their lifspan is short.
I think you could maybe get a similar feel with a lot less work by starting with a thicker piece of quality marine ply and using the subtractive method, paring, carving and shaping to suit.
Good marine ply uses boil proof glue that will last a very very long time even wet. Get it shaped the way you like, give it a coat of warmed epoxy, paint it and it'll last forever

That being said my new HPD is en route and will be here the first part of next week. Razz
