Damn...I wrote that on August 15 and now it's September 1 and it's been nothing but more of the same! Foggy, flat, windy, and this morning the ocean temp in Ventura is registering a very credible 61 degrees. No surf at all, no good for diving or small boating, and a holiday weekend coming up to boot. Top that off with an L.A. weathercaster saying the surf is going to be big all weekend from Hurricane John to stoke the end of summer frenzy of the clueless and you have a recipe for....well, for radical beer consumption for one thing. And it was such a good summer for so long. Time to be done with it and shift seasons.
No reason to be ungrateful though. So this weekend there will in fact be a surf sacrifice made on my part, half "thank you" for the best of Summer 2006 and part offering to make a graceful transition into Fall and the best time of the surf year for most of us. Hope everybody who can partake has a good one! |
