I would say definitely late takeoffs, from my point of view, even later than a bodyboard. I can take totally vertical drops as long as I stretch out in the direction of the wave and the wave offers me some part of the face to start on. Most of the time I'm taking off right below or on top of the peak, because that's the only space in a crowded break where I can get a wave. I don't know if it's typical because I'm never with other paipos in the water, but I'll free fall a foot or two out of the front of the wave before I start travel ling along the face. That sounds a little nuts but it's not really. Very Happy Not crazy. Not crazy.

Cool. One of my favorite things about boogie boards is the ability to take off when no one else can. It gets me better waves than I deserve!

I think you guys have convinced me.

They should have the Monster available in July. Starting to sound like a plan!

Poobah,
I had Paul make me a flexi-paipo-spoon with a fin box pretty much with experimentation in mind....

A single fin?

I don't know. My thought is, for now, go stock. Get some water time and then...

But, I'm still listening and researching.

The good news - compared to surfboards, these are cheap! But, given my snowboard expenditures, I need something cheap.

Single fin in a box, if that was directed to me. Both of us were pretty clueless on what size - kind of fin, with Paul more in favor of smaller and me more in favor of long. I think he was right, I have tried a small variety of Futures and the smallest has been the best. I don't remember the name, and I don't have my board in the car right now, but it's about 4"?
I have been meaning to post pics and show off Embarassed and solicit general advice but I owe Paul a fairly detailed report and didn't want to go public until after that. Now I've let the board out of the bag so to speak. I guess I'll have to write both.
This is getting a bit off the track of this thread. But it already went of the track I suppose. I really would like to get a paipo fest together. Norther California? Central California?

May be difficult to both get the board and get to the fest from Japan but I'd definitely try!

You guys have been so helpful!
I'd love to see you ride...even if I can't keep up.

You could always save for airfare by rolling your own!

Once I built a doghouse. Basically a 3-sided box. It took me 6 hours. Really. My manual dexterity is equal to a manatee's...and they don't have hands. Of course, using power tools, I might not either.

Next time make a four sided dog house, cut out an arched doorway and then go ride the door.
