Should work well here in Florida.

Poobah, before you send it off can you give me some extra dimensions, like thickness, fin size, rocker in the nose and tail etc.... I'd like to have a go at building one. _________________ in the green room then |

Tim - You're in Florida? Where? I'm in Indian Harbour Beach. Wow...another paipo rider in Florida. Last week there were some high quality shots of me paipo boarding at 2nd Light at Patricks, on 2ndlight.com. I was riding my 5' Mysterious Turtle balsa single fin. On Monday (Feb 2 my wife and I were out on our 4'6" fishes having a great time right at the end of our street. That little board you just bought will be EXCEPTIONAL in Florida surf! Nice score! Poobah, I've always admired that little board! -tumak |

3 1/2" rocker (radius back 25")
1 1/2" rocker @ 12"
Sweet board, too bad tail damaged in shipping.
I just got a 12' tandem from Infinity and it's nose was fractured in shipping.
Shipping sure is hard on boards.

My wife and I are in Cocoa Beach. I have seen your balsa paipo on the net... We surf Picnic Tables at Patrick as it is just as good as 2nd light however much less crowded. You can walk north to the beach houses and have it all to yourself. I have surfed for 40 years and ride boards ranging from 6'6" to 12' longboard. In January, I was dumped onto the sand by a inside barrell and dislocated my shoulder. Ortho surg. from Space coast ortho told me my surfing days are over. Thus the purhase of paipo... Now inside barrels will have a new meaning.
Turns out with therapy a neoprene brace I should be able to continue standing...But as you do...mixing in paipo will be in my future.
back in 70 thru 74 I was getting into the newport shoe and Greenough Glass Spoon. Spoon didnt work (no floatation) and the shoe performed worse than the short twin fin i was riding then.
When at patrick look for a old man with a shoulder brace surfing better than it seems possible and that will be me.

The shoe had a concave deck, covered with neoprene. Best recollection, 2 models 5'0" and a 5'4". Diamond tail , single fin, pin nose with great thickness in the nose.
Being from Santa Cruz you might know of KEINHOLTZ & ANGEL surfboards from the early 70'. These boards had a deck dome to six inches.
Shave out a concave in the deck and you have the shoe.
Later the shoe incorporated straps on the rail for hand holds.
Has anyone seen any KEINHOLTZ & ANGEL in your area?
These Boards are super cool.

Okay, Tim, I'll be lookin' for ya! I surf Picnic Tables very often instead of O-Club, as da Club can often be a total ZOO. Sorry to hear about your injury. I got slammed on the bottom at Tables on Thanksgiving morning riding paipo in TINY waves. I mean it! I hit just wrong...thought I'd broken my back. I was out of the water for almost a month. It was pitiful. I'm a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, and my wife is a Hoshino Therapist (special work on tendons) ...if you think we can be of any help, call 773-7943. |
