Skimboards as paipos....sure, but what about wakeboards as paipos? I recently bought a blemished and finless Trickboardz wakeboard on Ebay for $50. Normal retail is about $200. It's custom plywood. Not too much rocker down the center of the board, but a whole bunch of cancave. So the rail line is your rocker. Rails almost like keel fins. Here's their website...

Amazing video! How did the board work as a paipo?

It rides surprisingly well. The curve in the plywood is side to side, not front to back. Very drawn in nose and tail, with the wide point in the middle. The result is one big concave, and very little rocker down the center of the board. The rocker is in the rail line. The wake board was drilled for fins at either end, but I ride it finless. I blunted the nose, tail and rail edges, because they were too sharp for my needs. The board holds in the wave very well, and I've never pearled it (yet.) Mr. Mike has also ridden it without pearling. It's kinda/sorta like a plywood version of the old Newport Concave Vector...but larger and thinner.

The traction deck seen in the first photo was stock on the wakeboard. In the third photo, I slid a 1/4 inch thick pencil under the level near the tail to show how little rocker the board has from nose to tail. In the fourth photo, I have the level across the middle of the board with a US penny for scale. The concave is 1/2 inch deep at that middle point. In the last photo, with the level eight inches from the tail, I can barely slide the 1/4 inch thick pencil under the level.

So it's basically one big concave, and a classic example of how concave can be used to flatten the rocker of a board. And also a good example of the impact of template shape on a concave board. An extreme example....that rides. Very Happy
