I am making another plywood paipo. This one is 50" long by 20" wide parallel rails using 1/2" marine plywood. I have made a few others before this as well as riding an HPD and Austin. I ride using the superman style. I have realized that the boards that really work well for me have about a 900 - 1000 square inches of surface area whether they are buoyant or neutral. This may just be coincidental, but it is my theory.

The Austin has skegs that can get hung up going through kelp beds as well as a lot of buoyancy. The HPD can be a bear when caught in whitewater and is almost negative in the buoyancy factor. The plywood paipos that I have made, to me, have the perfect amount of buoyancy. My first was a 48"x20" using 1/2" Home Depot plywood. In small junky surf this board is amazing. As to why, I have no clue. In waves with power, I find that the flex starts working against me and not with me.

These are reasons for my next paipo. Let's hear from others!
