I had a fun session in some small clean waves on my Ho'okano paipo recently. My wife stood on the dry reef filming and shooting for a good couple of hours! (Thanks Kitty!!!)

And check www.deluxepaipo.com for video footage of the session!

Cool. Looks like that Ho'okano paipo gives you enough float for arm paddle take offs.

Hey OG, yeah that board doesn't have much float, but due to the huge surface area it lifts up onto the surface of the water with the slightest forward motion. Its a very fast board, but it doesn't hold into a steep face very well. Your style of board does that much better. Oh by the way, your latest video rocks!!!!! Here's another pic of me, riding a flat guitar-pick style board last weekend.

Classic styling in that new pic Kid! I'm surprised you say the big paipo doesn't float you a bit. I was amazed by that almost effortless take off on one of the waves in your vid.

The Ho'okano board is 12mm plywood, and not very good quality ply either. It's very waterlogged and heavy, but it seems like the surface area is more important than the flotation. Some of those take-offs look pretty effortless, but I'm either dropping in really late, or my legs are flapping like crazy under the water!
