Hello Mike,

Good work as usual. I would have never thought of the bottom design but the overall shape has similarities with my latest wood board. In the bottom photo the board is at a slight angle so isn't as thick as it appears.

I'll be interested to hear what difference you think the bottom makes.

regards

Bob

Are those built-in channels or strips that you glued on?

Those are glued on 1/4" ply strips planed on one end. If I was useing my pea brain I would have baught it already cut and shaped in the molding section at the homedepot well next time. surfed the board today surf was not much 2 to 3 ft. the board is stiff on the first 1/3 due to the 1/2 collar the center is nice and flxey and the last 1/3 of the board is real flexy. does not flex to much front to back. but flexs like a taco side to side I kind of like it speed was good and held the wave well. we will see if it will last in some bigger stuff. I think the collar and the slates will keep it from cracking all my the other 1/4" thick boards made it about 1 week. time will tell. I do like the liteness of the board about 5lb Cool

Isn't all the HD molding just some kind of softwood, not ply, unless you buy fancy designer stuff made of oak or something. Anyway, not the breakage protection you are getting from the ply strips you have on there.

I had a similar thought just last night! My idea involved d-shaped rails every few inches along the bottom of a board. Theoretically, the rails would give the board more surface area, and perhaps more buoyancy as a by-product? It'd certainly make it less prone to slip-out from under you if you tried to stand up on it.

My special mega-patented "Parallel rail channels" design was inspired by our water-brothers of the sea, and , ah, by the channels on the off the rack shelving at Home Depot. And I think they work pretty well. The shocker for me was that they haven't broken off...yet.
