I was talking to my lumber guy (about another project) and we discussed cedar. Western cedar is durable, the stuff you're using. It smells but it's not overpowering. Tennessee cedar, aka eastern or insense, is the stuff that smells good. Downside is it's not as sturdy as western.

but so nice when you are cutting and sanding it and the eastern ceder has a darker red color and more knots Cool

Those knots are sure beautiful when you are done but kind of a butt pain to shape...

Did you use a specific type of joint when gluing it together? Does the lack of a solid stringer make two-piece boards more likely to split taco-shell style?

I just use a good butt joint with tilebond 3 glue I never had a split on a glued joint but a split along the grain Cool

Almost all modern glues are stronger then the wood.
Anything other than butt joints is overkill.
No stringers needed in wood boards.
