Mike,

I see there is a Krypt in the quiver. How does it ride compared to the 4GF?

I think the krypt is a little faster and the valve is way better you can't pull the plug out by mistake. this is a good thing. but the deck is slippery you can see that I put some 1/16" grip strip on to keep me onboard. also slower to turn then the round tails. they all have there good points and bad. Cool

Thanks Mike.

Krypt are Aussie produced. I have had a Neumatic on order for a while. I send an annual e-mail inquiry regarding it's whereabouts.

I accidentally pulled my valve on a 4GF once .. got my behavior modified real quick from that experience.

I only rode my 4GF Vespa (Round Tail) for the first time two weeks ago in PR. At most I got to ride some four-five footers that were generally slow. I was surprised at how well I could turn the mat. There is a fairly clear warning out there that some relearning is required to transition to a mat so I was happy that I was at least catching waves day 1, including turns.

I can see that additional relearning will be needed .. I quickly became aware that some of my man handling moves that work on softies and hard paipos attempted on a mat put me in the Maytag for a washing.

I get, but am not completely there on the idea of squeezing air to one side for turns and otherwise slinking about on the mat for subtle changes in weight distribution. It does seem that mat riding is more about positioning yourself as to turn yourself over to the grace of the wave rather than to control your craft. I got some rides that were soulful so am sold on making the effort to learn.

ya I pulled the plug out on my vespa on a 6ft day paddling out, ever see a person with web gloves try to put the plug back in in 6ft crashing surf. kindof funny. found my flat mat 1/4 mile down the beach. Laughing

<grin> its good to hear it found its way in. Always think on the bright side .. right?

I just told my wife that surfers seem to enjoy telling their disaster stories as much as their conquests .. she compared them to child birth stories.

I took some webbed gloves (H20) with me to PR two weeks ago but did not try them. Makes sense they will help but thought I should get some experience riding the mat at all before introducing an additional variable. It was my fist time on a mat .. well there were those times back in the early 60s riding canvas mats during the family vacation.
