Here's a new pine paipo I've been working on lately.
54" x 17" (tail 14 1/2")

It's quite heavy (about 12lb), making closeouts a bit hazardous for my liking. Two rough planks straight from the saw mill, glued them with Araldit double component epoxy, which I always trust. 4 coats of marine varnish to seal it up.

As you can see in the first pics, I intended to make a parabolic tail but then I scrapped that idea, lopped off 5" and left it with straight rails. There is a small 3/8" concave at the back with a not so wide channel starting at the very nose. The rails are sharp all the way around and really do their work on the face.
The board is very easy to turn and holds on surprisingly well for bottom turns even in near closeouts. I mean I was amazed.

What really surprised me though was the fun you can get out of this board in the smaller knee-high waves and whitewater. I think I wasted the whole of my first session looking for a good wave and really just took one pounding after the other, save for a few good ones.

Lots and lots of elbow grease and here are the results.

Looking good. The learning curve can be pretty steep, but when it comes together it's all worthwhile.

Hi Pekorotze,
I've seen your nick on some other forum on alaias.
Sí, soy de Galicia y vivo cerca de Ferrol. Eras del País Vasco ¿no?

Not too many people making alaias in my area unfortunately. How about your area?
