Ok, so I'm new to the whole board building thing. I made a handboard for my first test to see if I could even do it. It looks good but I don't know what to seal it with. I have heard linseed oil is the best from a bunch of carpenters. I would also like to build an alaia/paipo about six feet long. Help me out i need pointers! Confused Very Happy

if you oil it, boiled linseed oil or tung oil, I know somebody(no names please) that uses hemp oil will work fine. but you need to reapply it every two to three month. I use minwax halmans spar varnish about 4 to 6 coats lasts for years and easy it fix when you drop it on the street.

you can make it out of any wood you would like. flotation is much over rated. I have made them out of oak, black walnut, redwood, lacewood, cedar and others but a lot of alaia are made out of paulownia wood, sometimes hard to find and not cheap. If it was my first one I use a cheaper cut of wood like cedar or redwood they are lighter than most wood and cheap Cool
