Well... the DelMarVa (Delaware/Maryland/Virginia) barrier islands get kinda cold between November and April with water dipping into the 30s and air sometimes way below that. My cutoff is usually around 45F and spending some time in the tropics during Dec-Mar usually passes for my winter water sessions. But, every now and then we get a really good Nov or early Dec swell and then it is time to surf or cut bait. I bought my first 6/4 about 5 yrs ago, prompted by several trips to N. Oregon.
Since my 2-week Costa Rica trip at the end of March, I have been in the water one time, a relatively mild 58-60F water day in my 3/2 with 1mm wet socks. Oh how I hated that wetsuit!
I am guessing that the Big Sur waters will be in the 55F to 60F range.
Yes, get your warm ass butt up there, Soulglider! _________________ rodNDtube

Damn, you must surf much from Oct-April in the San Diego area!
Yes, you should come up on Saturday and split on Monday. I think that Kage will try to get a Sunday night - probably better for vacation traffic anyway. _________________ rodNDtube

It's a tent type camping ground, but there is room for a camper to park unless it's giant sized. No water hookups for RVs.
Just for general info, it's a medium sized (40 or so spots campgound) water and flush toilets but no showers. Each spot has a fire ring, table and cupboard. Mostly around a big grass central area. It's about a quarter mile to the surf (probably a little less) most walk it though you can drive and park closer. Wood you can get from the host, I usally bring my own because of the price. Gorda is right up the road about 3 miles, theres a market and gas. But I would avoid it if at all possible, it has the distinction of having the highest gas prices in California. Closest reasonable priced groceries are in San Simeon about an hour south. I will bring all my supplies frozen with dry ice on top. Works for about three days. |

I've been talking with my SWIMPAL and it looks like I may actually be able to get away and attend this event.
Is there room for one more truck? I have a nice pop up on a Tundra.
I also have extra camp gear if someone's in need...... tent etc.
I don't have a big screen, sat phone or jacuzzi but I do have lot's of surf toys....... |
