Bellyfest in Pacific Beach, San Diego on Saturday May 3rd

The Longboard Collector Club will meet in the parking lot of the
Beach Cottages Hotel at the corner of Mission Boulevard and
Thomas Avenue. The club meets periodically to buy, sell, swap,
and show vintage surfboards and other surfing memorabilia.
The meeting theme is bellyboards, but you can expect surfboards
of all shapes and sizes to show up. The public is welcome to bring
old boards for free appraisal, but only club members can sell at
this event. Parking is limited to club vendors and hotel guests.
8AM to Noon. Rain or shine. Don't forget your swim fins.

Bellyfest was a groove. Here's me with one of my cork/plywood hybrids:

There were some truly vintage boards there:

Here's some of the boards Mr. Mike and I brought. Mr. Mike's father in law holding down the seat of honor:

Even a Cornish board showed up:

Something for everybody:

We shall return....

Poobah,

On page 2 there are wooden boards with slots by the rail. If these are handholds. On one board in particular they seem a long way back to be held when riding.

Most of the handholds are near the balance point and would make it easy to carry the board like a suitcase. There's one board that had offset handles, but that board could have been shorter to begin with. The kick in the nose was several pieces of wood that were held in place by a curved piece of wood on each rail.

There is another possible use for handholds...just a guess. They can be used to rope or chain rental boards together when the shop is closed.

Here's another angle of the board with the offset handles, and it also gives a better look at the board with the rope handle/bumper.
