The surf/shorebreak looked like this (does most of the time):

That's how the surf looks in FL for most of the summer too. Sweet board! |

Lol. Yes, what probably amounts to cross chop in N. Oregon is gonzo swell in many other places in the world Despite the inner wave snob in me I did spend about 4 hours in the water this past Sunday at the Waterman's Challenge "paipo expression session." Guess it was because the company was so excellent! _________________ rodNDtube

I saw the evidence...any water time is good time.
P.S. the above pic could very well be TX as well, HA!

We have crummy to non-existent surf on the Big Island of Hawaii for most of the year. It takes just the right winter W-NW swell to catch the Kohala Coast, since Oahu and Maui block the NW and true north swells. That being said, I'd rather surf with my buddies in crummy surf than with bozo's in good surf. |

i had special glasses made to spot the waves more easy. But hey, there are advantages too:
* no sharks (that i know of)
* no 2 minute hold downs
* no bouncing / scraping over the reef
haha but i see i'm not the only one with these excellent wave conditions! _________________ Increasing succes by lowering expectations

Funny how the people with the biggest stoke are often the ones who live near the smallest waves... |

LOL, everyone is right. You have to forgive Paipo Jim's bias when the N. Oregon coast is bombarded with larger surf. Just ask about the winds! (Actually, there are several headlands to hide behind, but sometimes...) _________________ rodNDtube

Hi Rod!
Very true! We all work with the waves in our backyard I guess i/m lucky being able to ride the bike to the beach (about 10 miles).
And to be honest, i don't think i would have the guts to paddle out in big cold surf with possible great whites lurking, like you guys do.
greetings

It is what ABC's Wide World of Sports use to call "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat." Catch a nice wave at The Point in Seaside and it is ALL thrill. A great white nips on you and it is simply the agony of defeat _________________ rodNDtube
