I got a call today from Chris' wife, Janet, and wanted pass along this info to all of you. The Cocoa Beach Surfing Museum has added a Paipo division in Memory of Chris Harazda, to their annual Waterman's Challenge. It will be held the weekend of June 14th-15th. I'm looking forward to participating, and it would be great if any others from this site are able to attend! I know it's a long way to FL for most of you. I'll post more details as they become available. |

Rod, it would be great if you could fly down for this! Some updated info: In the true spirit of Chris, it will be a Paipo "Expression Session", rather than an actual competition. No entry fees and no prizes, just pure and simple paipo riding. The event will be held at the Cocoa Beach Holiday Inn on Sunday, June 15th, the 2nd day of the Waterman's Challenge. If anyone needs directions/ travel info, let me know.
Edit: Here is the website: http://www.16streets.com/watermans-challenge.htm Not much info about the paipo session on the site; all of the above additional info is directly from Janet |

It was a great time this morning! I had met and ridden the waves with Tumak before but never met his wife, Janet, or dksnap (Allison). There must have been another half-dozen people that joined us out in the line-up for the "expression session" on a variety of wave riding devices ranging from surf mats to a Romanosky kneeboard, including the Tumak template balsa board and fiberglass version now being made by Neilson. One of Eef's boards was on display, too.
Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures. Nonetheless, there were ton's of photographers. Our post session photo op lasted about 15 minutes as photogs and others kept coming up to takes pics of our group.
Allison can add some names and faces. _________________ rodNDtube

A number of pics popped up on the 16streets forums from our "expression session." Here is another one of the group pics:
The characters are roughly in the same order as Allison named them above.
l to r:
? ? (w/"Turtle" fiberglass paipo), ?? (w/balsa paipo), Janet Harazda (w/paipo fish), Rod Rodgers (w/Austin Saunders fiberglass paipo), ?? (w/balsa paipo and Namkai paipo fish), John Hughes (w/a Dale Solomonson surf mat), ?? (w/spoon kneeboard), ?? Jane Moody & Melody (w/Hawaiian Paipo Designs), and ?? Allison Cohen (w/Romo quad fin kneeboard).
Photo credit: The lady shooting hundreds of pics. On the 16streets forum she is known as "Aloha_FL," Global Moderator and Hero Member on the 16streets.com forums.
I wasn't able to register on the forum, can't PM Aloha_FL, and there are no e-mail addresses on the web page... will try again later to get permissions to post more. _________________ rodNDtube
