Wanted to say hi to everyone out there in Paipo-land.
Just found the site recently and am stoked to have come across like-minded individuals.
I am a longtime bodyboarder bodysurfer and riverboarder living in Cape Town South Africa
Just learning about Paipo boards/boarding, and keen to get going making my first ones. Great to be able to learn so much already from previous discussions.

Hi Charl,
Good to hear from you. Tell me, what the hell is 'riverboarding'? Never heard of that one before!

Hey Brooky,
Thanks for saying hi.
You asked about Riverboarding... basically we run whitewater rivers on boards similar to bodyboards but with more volume (called Riverboards or Hydrospeeds). I make my own boards, so that's how I came across rodndtube.com, while I was searching for info on board design.
To best source for information, if you want to see some more, is to go to http://www.facelevel.com/v3/ - you may even see me there....

Hello Charl,
Is there a site that has more pics of the boards and etails of what they are made of. Some boards look super thick but there was a shot of a guy with a real thin board. The hold downs must get heavy. What's the biggest falls that has been ridden?

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Bob, in reply to your questions on Riverboarding (hope that's ok on a Paipo site).
1. The boards are mostly made of PVC/Polyurethane or EVA/Polyethylene. On the www.facelevel.com homepage you'll see the second tab from the left "Boards" will show the various designs and ideas on Riverboards also called Hydrospeeds in Europe, including some experimental ones.
2. Then, your question about the waterfalls.... we do get held under sometimes, hence the need for extra bouyant boards and good PFD's (personal floatation device). At present the record for biggest vertical descent is generally regarded to be my descent of Harts Hill Waterfall in South Africa at 13m's/39ft. If you look on the Facelevel homepage on the left-hand side there is a picture of me looking at the falls and a link showing some more pictures. The very well-known Adventurer, Mike Horn, is accredited with the highest waterfall descent by Riverboard (22m's), but this was a waterfall slide, as opposed to a vertical drop.
If you want more info on materials, board design, etc. email me on charl@facelevel.com and I will help you as much as I can.

Welcome to the group, Charl!
It was interesting to read of an active paipo boarding scene in South Africa extending back into at least the mid 20th century according to the booklet obtained recently by Bluey. _________________ rodNDtube
