December 28, 2001 through January 2, 2002

After enduring mostly flat surf during the early fall, Thanskgiving brought long series of solid NW and W swells that just kept getting better and better. As the holidays approached, Terry, Mike, and I agreed that a Baja trip was in order. We watched the swell models closely, and finally decided to head far down the peninsula on December 28th.

Mike volunteered to ride in the back seat so Terry could copilot. We drove continuously for many hours, except for two pit stops to refuel. We made excellent time, and when we got to the turnoff where we left Mex1, we took a much-deserved break to stretch our legs.
The surf wasn't working at our original destination, so we drove along the coast road until we ended up here.

We were somewhat concerned about camping so close to the water, since the combination of high tide and large surf had given several campers a very rude awakening that morning. Thanks to careful campsite selection and luck, our camp stayed dry.

The surf was definitely working at this spot. It stayed pretty good the entire time we were there, and the weather was very pleasant.
